This project which replaces existing 2 storey housing and temporary library structure with 88 Social & Affordable apartments and new Public Library, looks to transform an underdeveloped peripheral site adjacent the busy N11 into a quarter that establishes a new landmark on the skyline for those approaching along the carriageway while simultaneously extending the public realm for the greater residential community through the introduction of new pedestrian routes, connections and gardens.
The residential component of the scheme, consisting of a mix of duplex, 1, 2 & 3 bed apartments is organised around a landscaped courtyard garden. Buildings step and adjust to suit the differing conditions of the site, with heights rising from a 4 storey book-end building to 9 storeys at the intersection of N11 and Kilmacud Road
The Library, organised over two floors and with direct access to the common garden is located at the prow of the development. Its stepped approach creates a covered portal as part of pedestrian route through the scheme.
The project will be completed to the highest levels of sustainability and environmental performance standards.
