Back to Projects Roscommon County Council Civic Offices

Integral to a larger urban design proposal that includes the establishment of a new pedestrian route to the town centre, the construction of a town carpark, and the part-refurbishment of the C19th courthouse, (a Protected Structure) the new BREEAM Excellent Civic Offices integrate the historic walls of an 18th Century Gaol within a new form where office wings overlook wild gardens.

A linear concourse provides the primary horizontal and vertical circulation for the project.

A series of dramatic voids cut into the roof of the concourse provide daylight and glimpses to the offices above. At upper levels a central spine, lit by the vertical voids, provides horizontal circulation. At the head of the concourse is located the council chamber which overlooks the landscape beyond.
The distribution of offices is designed in a clear and legible format that allows for maximum flexibility in the future.
