Back to Projects Orchard Housing, Limerick

Developed as part of Limerick City Council’s urban renewal programme and designed as part of a greater masterplan for Castle Street prepared by ABK Architects, the project looks to reinstate the medieval street pattern, grain and character of this historical quarter while providing 28 units in a mix of one and two-bed, fully-accessible apartments for older persons.

The project, which is defined by the line of Limerick’s city wall, creates a secure, residential community organized around a private, central communal courtyard

A three-storey apartment building marks the eastern end of the site while a two-storey residential terrace of apartments, accessed from a new pedestrian route that follows the line of the medieval wall (‘City Wall Walk’),

A new linear park is proposed that follows the line of the City wall creating an amenity for the local community and visitors alike.
