The Institute of Technology Tralee is the major third-level education facility in the Kerry region. It provides techical education and training for 2,500 full and part time students. It is also active in industrial research and consultancy as well as assisting with the economic and social development of the region.
Due to increased overcrowded and a very restricted original site, the Institute has relocated to a new 25 hectare site at Dromthacker. The Feasibility Study for the Campus Development Plan included infrastructure and new buildings for Business Studies and Information Technology, Hotel and Catering training; a Library, a Student Services Building, Buildings for Sports and Sports Management Studies and Agricultural and Engineering training as further phases of the development.
The Masterplan has recently been enlarged to incorporate a greater amount of related commercial buildings that have synergies with the Institute as well as the adjacent Kerry Technology Park.
First Phase : Business and Information Technology Building and Hotel, Catering and Tourism Building – Completed by 2004
Second Phase: Library Building – Completed December 2008
