Back to Projects Liffey Island Extension, Dublin Docklands

The Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) commissioned ABK Architects to develop a feasibility and detailed design study for the proposed Liffey Island Extension on Dublin’s North Docks in conjunction with the master-planners, West 8, as part of a comprehensive assessment of the architectural potential of the site.

A series of design strategies were developed in consultation with the DDDA that address the desire to maximise the public accessibility at ground and roof-top level, while maintaining views and connectivity between the inner blocks and the river already enjoyed by existing stakeholders and maximising the economic potential of the site.

A series of ‘palazzi’ and ‘towers’ with open arcades at quay-level and connected public gardens at roof-level contain a variety of public functions, including a grand food hall, an open market and a glazed orangerie, all providing public amenity and civic presence for the people of Dublin in this new Quarter.
