The Enterprise and Research Campus, strategically located in Dublin City centre, is owned by Trinity College Dublin and let to small and medium-sized enterprises. Integral part of the research function of Trinity Colleg, The Enterprise Centre can be considered a knowledge-based company generation and support facility. ABK Architects have been commissioned to renovate and re-use some of the existing old industrial units into modern, highly serviced spaces.
This operation in particular involved the stripping out and refurbishment of an existing industrial unit to create new Business Incubation Units for Startup Campus Companies.
The volume of the existing pitched roof was used to create a dramatic hall space that gives access to five different sizes of incubation office space. Floating screens of oak and glass create an identity within the hall for different companies. The existing concrete slab is polished to create a terazzo hall finish. A laylight allows natural light animate the hall. Shared kitchenette and WCs are provided while each unit has independent power and data provision.
